Germany fact:
51% of Germans say they speak English to some extent. This is very low if you compare it to the percentage (almost 90%) in the Netherlands, for example.
Because it is not necessary to speak English, a different culture has developed in Germany when it comes to dealing with foreign languages. For example, foreign languages are taught quite late. Although there are now elementary schools and kindergartens where children learn Basic English, this is not the rule.
